A 1979 masonry house, taken back to its block walls, with a new addition built onto it. The brief was to bring a villa way of living into the middle of Scottsdale. Courtyard planning, rooms that open rather than look out, and a material palette that holds temperature instead of fighting it. Casa Areca in Tulum was the model we studied for how that gets done on a tight urban lot.
